Seedtime and Harvest: Your Divine Connection to “My cup runs over, I shall not want.”

Genesis 8:22 establishes the spiritual law of sowing and reaping, of seedtime and harvest.  It says, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.”  The bible mentions this law many times over.  Although it may not make sense to the world, God’s way of multiplication and prospering His church is through the planting of seeds and the reaping of their harvest.  Seeds multiply after their own kind.  If you want cotton, plant cotton.  If you want tomatoes, plant tomatoes.  If you need money, sow money.  The bible instructs in Malachai 3 that the 10% tithe of your income that is set apart and sanctified to God is to go to the storehouse, or the worship center where you go to worship God and are fed His Word.  Offerings, however, are completely different.  You sow an offering in order to receive from God whatever harvest you have need of.  When we sow, we are to purpose in our heart what we need, and then we are to name our seed when we sow it.  After we sow, we are to rest in Him, waiting in expectancy to receive 30, 60 or 100-fold return.  Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given unto you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom.  For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back unto you.”  Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”  So what power has God given us to get wealth?  The power of sowing seed!  And why does God want us to prosper?  Because it is His covenant promise to us through Abraham.  God and Abraham cut a covenant – in exchange for Abraham’s obedience, God promised to make Abraham a very wealthy man and to make Him a great nation, in him all the families of the earth are blessed.  We are the fruit of Abraham’s loins, and we are ALREADY blessed!  We are ALREADY entitled to wealth and prosperity in every area of life – health, joy, peace, protection, and yes, financial wealth.

People are need-minded, but God is seed-minded.  After authority, seed was the second thing that God gave man in Genesis.  We are all intended to be sowers of seed.  When you have a need, sow a seed.  You are never without seed.  Seed is not always financial seed, you could have prayer seed, time seed, material seed, volunteer seed.  And just as every farmer knows, even when you are down to your very last, you never spend (or eat) your last seed, you plant it, because that the only way you will get multiplication from it.  If you eat it, it is gone forever.

Consider these two instances in the bible where seed was sown to meet a need.  1Kings 17:8, a widow had just enough flour to make one last cake for her son and herself before they should die.  Elijah the profit came along and the woman sowed a significant seed into him – a portion of their last meal.  She could have chosen to eat the last of her flour and oil and die.  But she chose to turn what she had left into seed.  That seed multiplied into a cruz of oil that did not run dry and a bin of flour that was not used up.  She sowed her seed and lived.  In 2 Samuel 24:24, Daniel illustrates the importance and seriousness of sowing seed – he never made an offering unto God or His kingdom that did not cost him something.  So when you sow, don’t just arbitrarily pick a number.  Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how much you are to give.  When you know the amount, then name your seed.  Purpose in your heart what it is you are expecting to harvest.  When you have completed these things, plant your seed and water it with praise and worship.  Then wait expectantly to receive your harvest!
